NJPW – Road To Destruction – September 8th, 2018 – Results

The stars of NJPW return to Korakuen Hall for the second Road To Destruction show. This show is headlined by Juice Robinson & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Beretta & Kazuchika Okada in a Special Tag Match, leading to the singles match in Kobe on Sunday, September 23rd. This show is available on njpwworld and has Japanese Commentary only.

Yuya Uemura & Shota Umino vs Yota Tsuji & Ren Narita

  • This was a good opening tag match, these Young Lions get to show and build themselves a little more each time they are out there and the crowd enjoy it. It’s this time that builds the connection to these characters and inevitably the longing to see these characters when or if they leave for excursion. Shota is relentless with the Boston Crab and submits Yota Tsuji for the victory. Winners: Shota Umino & Yuya Uemura

Ayato Yoshida vs Chase Owens

  • Ayato Yoshida has supporters in the crowd with “Kaientai Dojo” signs, this is a big opportunity for this young talent to have a decent singles match against Chase Owens on a large streaming platform and in front of a big crowd at the famed Korakuen Hall. Ayato fought hard but Chase Owens would escape from multiple arm bars and arm submissions, one time by gouging the eyes of Ayato. Chase beat Ayato with the package Piledriver. Winner: Chase Owens.

Toa Henare, David Finlay, Michael Elgin & Togi Makabe vs Taiji Ishimore, Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga & Bad Luck Fale

  • With the G1 Climax recently, it’s been a while since Taiji Ishimore has had the chance to show off in a NJPW ring, he did on this show. Taiji Ishimore reminds the NJPW fans in attendance and watching on njpwworld how fast he can be, jumping in and out of the ropes. this was a fast paced match with good spots for Makabe, who is always really over with the Japanese audience but ended with a gun stun on Toa Henare. Winners: Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Bad Luke Fale and Taiji Ishimore.

YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto vs Kanemaru & Taichi

  • Suzuki-gun fought dirty in this one, getting the jump start on Goto and YOSHI-HASHI at the start and also taking the fight to the outside multiple times and using illegal weapons. This match never really got a comeback for the babyfaces, YOSHI-HASHI and Goto, a few times where they fought back but to no avail. eventually, Taichi used his microphone stand against Hirooki Goto in the ring, in front of the referee and Taichi was disqualified.  After the match, Taichi joined the Japanese commentary team. Winners: Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI by DQ.

TAKA Michinoku, Iizuka, El Desperado & Minoru Suzuki vs BUSHI, EVIL, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito

  • Suzuki-gun get the jump start at the beginning with Suzuki targeting Naito straight away. Suzuki-gun took this immediately to the outside for the first five minutes or so with the use of steel chairs and anything else Suzuki and his band of maniacs could get their hands on. At one point I thought this would  end in a DQ without ever getting in the ring. One of the main focuses in this match was Naito vs Minoru Suzuki in the future. TAKA took BUSHI’s code breaker from the second rope for the finish. Winners: Los Ingobernables De Japon, BUSHI, SANADA, EVIL & Tetsuya Naito.

Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi & Yujiro Takahashi vs Tomohiro Ishii, Will Ospreay & Toru Yano

  • This match kicks off with Kenny and the next challenger for his IWGP Heavyweight Championship but when Ospreay gets tagged in he shouts ” Give Me Ibushi” so Kenny tags in Ibushi, I really want a singles match between these two. Yano tried to take the corner buckles off but was stopped by Kenny and Ibushi, which was funny. Kenny and Ishii are tagged in and face off with strikes after Ishii blocks a knee. They did a spot where Yano grabbed Yujiro’s hair, then Kota grabbed Yano’s hair, then Ospreay grabbed Kota’s hair, then Kenny grabbed Will’s hair but when Kenny tried to grab the hair of Ishii, he had no hair to grab so Ishii gave Kenny a shoulder tackle that sent everyone down, funny spot. Moments later, Yano hit the low blow on Yujiro and rolled him up for the win. Winners: Chaos; Ishii, Ospreay and Toru Yano.

Juice Robinson & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Beretta & Kazuchika Okada

  • This match was a preview of the match for the IWPG Heavyweight Championship match at Wrestlekingdom on January 4th. In this match Okada would target the inner thigh/groin of Juice but contests to the ref, the fans and even his own partner that it wasn’t a low blow. after getting the heat on Juice for a while, Juice made a tag to Tanahashi, who fired up on Beretta. Okada and Tanahashi had multiple spots together in this match as well as Juice, the IWGP US Heavyweight Champion and the returning Beretta having a lot of time to shine. Juice Robinson fight for an extended time in the ring with Okada and Tanahashi fighting outside, these two have great nearfalls, big bumps from the top rope and reversals of finishers. really good showing by all four guys. This eventually finished, after a fight for a finisher between Juice and Beretta, with a Pulp Friction. Winners: Juice Robinson and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

HINT: NJPW charges at the beginning of the month, like mist Japanese subscription services, so your best time to subscribe is early in the month. NJPW World is ¥999 per month which is less than the WWE Network and about the same price as Netflix.
