My June 3rd Update – NJPW At The Movies – My Dad Is A Heel Wrestler

I found out today that NJPW will be hitting the big screen with a movie called “My Dad Is A Heel Wrestler”. This movie stars New Japan ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi along with top NJPW star and long time IWGP Champion Kazuchika Okada and even Ryusuke Taguchi.

From what I can tell from the Japanese trailer is that Tanahashi plays a heel wrestler under a mask called “Cockroach” and he faces the babyface champion, played by Okada. Tanahashi’s son finds out that his dad is the bad guy he has been booing at the shows and seems to struggle with the fact. Tanahashi’s son gets embarrassed to tell his classmates who his dad is and tells a lie that his dad is a babyface wrestler, which doesn’t go well. Just from the trailer, this movie looks fun, has an interesting story and some good action scenes.

Tanahashi’s character is Takashi Omura and he son in the movie is Shota Omura, played by child actor Kokoro Terada. Takashi’s wife’s name is Shiori Omura, played by Yoshino Kimura. Other New Japan wrestlers in thirds movie are Togi Makabe, Satoshi Kojima, Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi & Hirooki Goto alongside Kazuchika Okada.

This film is directed by Kyohei Fujimura and set to be released September 21st, 2018 with a runtime of 110 minutes. No information if this movie will be dubbed in English but is likely to have at least English subtitles.
